Today,
the earth is getting damaged. Denuded forests, rivers full of garbage, polluted
air, and others. As a result, frequent natural disasters such as floods and
landslides. There are also many people who are sick from air pollution.
Obviously we do want to avoid things like that. So, we must take action
commonly called go green.
We
do not need to bother to go green. We can start with simple things, even we can
also do it at home. Here I will describe
about go green at home, you can do
from waking up when you go to sleep.
We
live in a tropical country, so that the air temperature is high. Therefore, we
often use the air conditioner or a fan that does not overheat during sleep. But
think. For example, if we sleep at 9, then got up at 4, how many hours the fan
or air conditioning is on without stopping? Then in
the afternoon, the AC
is still turned on. And one day AC could be
burned out.
We must not waste electrical power
because of a negative impacts.
For our earth's environment as a whole, CFC generated by the use of air
conditioning can cause the ozone layer in the earth's atmosphere become hollow.
This condition would cause the ozone to lose its main function, namely as an
antidote to the dangers of ultraviolet rays that harm our bodies.
So
what should we do? Of course we can not throw our AC away for granted. So, the simplest way is to directly
turn down
the air conditioner or a fan (set it in
normal temperature, not too low) before you go to sleep until you
wake up and open the window of the room so that the air exchange.
Our
obligation as Muslims are praying. And prayer is certainly not valid if it does
not perform ablution (wudhu).
But, remember, we can not turn on the water too much when ablution. Use water
sparingly. There are still many people who need the water. Luckily we were
still able to perform ablution with clean water.
When it is already getting light, open all windows in home. In spite of the exchange of air, the sun
will go into the house and will make the room brighter, so that we can turn off
the lights. Turn off all the lights to save
power. Think about the situation in rural villages predominantly can not yet
feel of being in the room lit by lamps.
Of
course we had to shower every morning. And still the same, when taking showers do not overdo the use of
water. When it is not used,
close the water tap to save the water.
When you go to school, you
should also bring your
own supplies and drinking water. That is one way to reduce waste. If we buy
bottled water, the bottle or glass will surely
result garbage. So even with food, for example, we purchase sausage skewers.
Although there is no packaging, of course, also produce waste that is of
stitches. So, we better bring lunch to school.
When you go home from school, usually there is free time. Try to fill
the free time to be creative. Go to the warehouse in the home or other storage.
If you find usable stuff,
just take it and recycle that.
You also may spend
time with planting. If you do not have seeds, you could do some artificial vegetative such as
grafting or cuttings. If you do not
learn yet, you can see in the book or the internet. We also can make compost
from wet trash that so easy to find
in your
home. For example, we can use the
leftover rice or vegetables. If you don’t know how to make
compost, you can ask to your parents or search in the internet.
In the afternoon, we usually shower. Try to accommodate
the water used to bathe. That water can be used for watering plants. But, water
it when the late afternoon only. Do not water your plants when during the day,
because it will actually evaporate because of the sunlight.
In the evenings, when we
usually like to spend time with watching television. But, sometimes we often do
other things and
forget to switch the TV off. So, if you want to do other things, turn off the
TV first.
When
going to bed, turn off the lights in part of the room, including the room
lights. The rooms have to be dark when we sleep. Because, in addition to saving
electricity, it is also beneficial to your health.
The new body could produce the hormone melatonin when there is no light. This
hormone is one of the immune hormone that is able to fight and prevent a
variety of diseases
including breast cancer and prostate cancer. Unfortunately, the hormone
melatonin will not appear if the person in bed at night with the lights on. The
presence of light is making the hormone melatonin
production stops. So, turn off the lights when going to sleep. And do not
forget, set the AC with normal temperature, not too low.
